We are delighted for our performance company dancers to once again be able to present our production of "The Nutcracker". A timeless tale of a young girl named Clara and her beloved Nutcracker, given to her by her favorite Uncle Herr Drosselmeyer. In a dream Clara's Nutcracker becomes a handsome Prince and together they travel to the Land of Sweets to find the Sugar Plum fairy and many of her friends. But when Clara awakes she wonders if it really was a dream after all. Our narrated version of this version of the Nutcracker was created to help bring wonder and delight to the holiday season for you and your family and friends.

Our performance's are a community tradition that we enjoy presenting each Christmas season.

Hi! I’m Yasmeen, I am 17 years old. I am in grade 12 at Barrhead Composite High School. I have 2 older brothers, I have been dancing for 14 years now with Footworks Dance Academy! My favorite part time hobbies are Volleyball, Golfing, and of course Dancing. During my free time I like to spend time with my friends, watch movies, listen to music and play with my kitten.

Hi my name is Kenzi Baird I’m 10 years old and in Grade 5. I started dancing when I was 2 years old and I take classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Circus, Acro and Performance Company. Ballet is my favorite class! 

Other than dancing, my favorite things are my pets! I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, a whole lot of chickens and 2 noisy roosters.  I’m looking forward to dance festival season and spending time with all my dance friends and the hotel pools!!

Arianna Blasko is a 16-year-old who has been dancing with Footworks Dance Academy for the last 3 years. She is truly excited to be a part of The Nutcracker this year! Her favourite disciplines of dance are ballet, lyrical and musical theater. This is her second performance in the Footworks Dance Academy The Nutcracker. Her favourite scene in the show is the battle between the rats and the soldiers. She lives on a farm with two cats, one dogs and three horses. Her favorite color is lilac. Arianna is overjoyed to participate in The Nutcracker this year with Footworks Dance Academy.

I'm in Grade 11. 

I have been dancing at Footworks for 12 years. I have tried almost every class but my favorites have been Jazz & Perf. Company.  I dance Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Perf. Co. & Ballet Tech. 

I am in my forth year of doing a solo & excited to do my 1st Duet. I always have a good time with STEP teaching the little dancers too. I love to dance more every year. I'm at the studio or practicing almost every day & have so much fun vibing with the dance family. Sometimes making my curly hair into dance hair drives me crazy.

When I'm not dancing I like to ride Dirt Bikes with my Brother, Snowboarding, Camping, Paddle Boarding and Fishing & Hunting. I want to finish my Lifeguard training.I love my Friends and Family. Popcorn & Jolly Ranchers are in my main food groups.

Hi! I’m Aubrey Carlson. I’m 9 years old and in Grade 4, and I’ve been dancing at Footworks since I was just 2! I take Ballet, Jazz, and Musical Theatre, and this year I joined the Performance Company, which means I get to dance in The Nutcracker—I can’t wait!

When I’m not dancing, I love doing puzzles, playing board games, taking care of my cats, and having fun with my siblings.

Hi my name is Lizé De Klerk

I’m 11 years old and in grade 6. I live in the town of Barrhead. I was born in South Africa and moved to Canada with my parents at age 3. I love dance, this is my fifth year in dance. I am in acro, arial, jazz, ballet, lyrical and performance company. My favourite is performance company and acro. I do dance, horse riding and school volleyball. My favourite food is tacos and my favourite colour is purple. I’m usually dancing or horse riding, but when I’m not I like hanging out with friends and spending time with my family and pets. I’m super excited to be in the nutcracker this year and can’t wait.

My name is Natalie Dekker I am 15 years old and have been dancing for 12 years. Some of my hobbies are horse back riding, skiing, baking and hanging out with friends! 

This year I am in performance company, jazz and tap. My favorite style of dance is tap. And I am very excited for this years dance season!

My name is Jordyn and I am 10 years old. I live in Barrhead with my mom, dad, sister and my two dogs Daisy and Lily. In school my favorite subject is art. I love camping in the summer time with my cousins, tubing, paddle boarding and hanging out with my friends! When I grow up I want to be a hair stylist, teacher or a dance teacher. I have been dancing at Footworks since I was 16 months old! Last year at the DanceStrong festival I earned a scholarship to SOL dance convention in Edmonton and it was a really fun experience! I am excited to be Clara in The Nutcracker because my favorite style of dance is ballet. My favorite dance memory is when Miss Irene started to cry when she found out that our Birthday Surprises ballet group made it into the final showcase at festival when we were 6!

Hi! I’m Abby, I’m 16 years old. I’ve been apart of Footworks Dance Academy since I was 3 years old. I currently dance in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Performance Company. Along with being a member of the STEP program! Outside of dance one of my biggest hobbies is reading. I’m so grateful to be apart of the Nutcracker this year, for all the memories I’ve got to create over the years, and for the ones to come! 

Hi! I'm Hannah. I'm 13 years old. I started dancing at Footworks Dance Academy 3 years ago with acro and aerial. This year I'm doing so many more dance classes because I love it. I've been having so much fun in Performance Company and can't wait to start working on my acro solo. I also enjoy STEP teaching the younger aerial classes. I go to school in Barrhead and last year I finished gr. 7 with honours with distinction. I have lots of pets but my favourites are my hedgehog named Charly and my cat named Chill. My hobbies are crafting, reading books in the hammock and dancing while "cleaning my room". 

Hello! My name is Olive! I am nine years old and I absolutely live to dance, I have been dancing since I could walk. But I've been in formal classes for eight years! I am so thrilled to be playing the part of Clara this season! When I'm not dancing, I also play the violin and love to take care of my pet goats! I live on a small farm near Fort Assiniboine, and love to play outside in my mud kitchen and build snow forts in the winter! I also love to sew, embroider and paint watercolour. I spend a lot of time reading and my favorite series is Harry Potter, my favorite characters are Dobby and Hermonie. I also love doing Harry Potter Lego! I have loved practicing The Nutcracker week after week. It's been so enjoyable being a part of the Performance Company in the 2025 dance season! 

Hello! My name is Opal! I am seven years old and have been dancing since I was just two years old. I love performing every chance I get, whether it's on a stage or in our living room! I am proud to be part of the performance company during the 2025 season. When I'm not dancing, I can be found crafting, drawing, or spending time with my beloved pet chickens and rabbits, whom I adore!  I live on a small farm near Fort Assiniboine, and love to play outside in any season, I love to ski and swim! Creative, kind, and full of energy, Opal brings sparkle to everything she does. She has been enjoying being a part of the The Nutcracker Performance in the 2025 dance season! 

Hi, my name is Jamie Kalmbach and I am 17 years old. I am currently in grade 12 and once I graduate I plan to go to school to become an engineer. Some of my hoodies include skiing, hiking, camping, watersport and of course dance. I am a level 1 ski instructor and teach skiing lessons at Misty Ridge ski hill. I love hiking to waterfalls and beautiful lookouts. As a family we go camping many times a season and going on the water is a must. I have been dancing ever since I was 3 and never stopped. Some of my favorites include jazz, point and lyrical. I have been a part of a performance company ever since I was 8 and it was always something I looked forward to. Starting out as one of the youngest, I was so excited to dance with the older dancers and I worked super hard to do the best I could. I loved having the older dancers come and talk to me to make me feel welcome. So now as one of the oldest I wanted to make it my goal to make sure the younger dancers today feel just as welcome and a part of the team that I did when I started.

Hi my name is Leah Kalmbach.  I'm 14 years old and I'm in grade 9. The dances I'm in are hip hop, jazz, ballet, and performance company. My favorite dance is hip hop . I also like to ski in the winter, and in the summer I like to go kneeboarding and spend time at the lake. 

I am looking forward to the show this year because we have spent lots of time practicing and I hope people enjoy it. 

My name is Annabelle Kapler, and I am 15 years old. I’ve been dancing for 12 years, and tap has always been my favourite style — I love everything about it. This season, I’m dancing in jazz, performance company, and tap. Outside of the studio, I enjoy spending time with my friends, and helping out on the farm. I’m excited for another amazing year on stage!

Lyla is a 17 year old dancer at heart. She started dancing at the age of 3. She loves her Ballet and Acrobatics classes, but recently has added Lyrical, Contemporary, Performance and Jazz.  Lyla loves her dance family and looks forward to spending time with them. Lyla has  a passion to help the younger generation to thrive by assisting in the STEP Program.

Hi! I’m Presley, and I am 16 and in the 11th grade. I have been dancing since the age of three and train in jazz, ballet, pointe, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, acro, and tap- but my most favourite genres of dance are ballet, lyrical, and pointe. Outside of dance, I love to bake, play games, snowboard, and spend time with my family and friends. In this year’s production of the Nutcracker, I am very excited to dance the role of the Nutcracker as well as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Enjoy the show!

Hi, my name is Ava Miedema, I am 11 years old. I live on a honey farm near Barrhead.

Some of my favorite things are crafting, playing the piano, my Pomeranian Pippa and dance. I enjoy learning many different types of dances, but I love ballet and musical theatre the most.

I am 8 years old, and my favorite dances are musical theatre and hip hop.

This year I am very excited to be in performance company. My favorite color is orange.

Besides dance my favorite things are colouring, reading, crafts, and singing. When I grow up, I want to run my own coffee shop.

Hi! My name is Brooke, and I am fifteen and in grade ten. I am so excited to be part of Performance Company this year and to have the opportunity to dance in this Christmas showpiece, The Nutcracker! In my free time, I love playing instruments, baking, and spending time outside with all my pets. I also have a crafty side and enjoy creating handmade art. This year, I am in six dances and help STEP four classes. I love being at the studio with my friends and dance family!

Hi! My name is Ella and I just turned 11 years old! I am in grade 5 and I go to Dunstable school. My favorite colors are lavender and baby blue. Some of my hobbies are basketball, water skiing and of course DANCE! I love cats and dogs and I am obsessed with cows! My favorite memories are going on road trips to Jasper and Sylvan Lake and going to fun places like Calaway Park and K-Days with my aunties, uncles and cousins. I have been dancing since I was 2 years old and my favorite style of dance is lyrical because the music is so pretty and we get to dance with the big kids! I am grateful for my friends, big family camping trips, dancing in The Nutcracker and all the things you need in life.

Danika first stepped foot on a stage at the young age of 3. From that moment on she knew Dance was her dream. Danika has been dancing for 13 years and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. Danika is currently taking classes in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Hip hop, Tap, Musical theater and Acrobatics at both Illusion Dance Co. in Whitecourt and Footworks Dance Academy in Barrhead. Danika is currently a Honors student in grade 10 at Ecole St. Joseph School in

Whitecourt, AB. Danika would like to give a big thanks to her ever supportive parents Natillie & Steve, her brother Tristan and her family and friends for believing in her and watching her live her passion.

Hi! My name is Cali Smithson. I’m 9 years old and in Grade 4 at Neerlandia PCS. I’ve been dancing at Footworks Dance Academy for four years, and this year I’m taking Ballet, Jazz, and Tap. I’m so excited to be in Performance Company for the first time and to be dancing in the Nutcracker Production! When I’m not dancing, I love taking care of the animals on my farm with my little sister Cara—including calves, cows, horses, chickens, turkeys, goats—and my 4H steer named Chonky. I’m also a member of the Meadowview 4H Beef & Sheep Club.

My name is Brie. I am in grade 3, my favorite color is light pink. Math is my favorite subject in school. I love Wonderbars and chicken burgers. I have a twin his name is Mark and I have two older sisters. I have one dog her name is Roxy. I have been dancing since I was 4 and Jazz is my top choice. This summer I went to Idaho to see my cousins, we spent lots of time at the lake. I am excited to perform the Nutcracker because I like watching it and I’ve always wanted to be in it.

My name is Lindsay, I am 12 years old and in grade 6. I love dance, golf, and running. Last year I made the school running team and this year I made the cross country team. This summer I went to Idaho with my family to see my cousins. I have a twin sister named Rena and two younger siblings. My favorite color is hot pink and I enjoy math and social studies at school. I have been dancing since I was 3 years  old, if I could only pick one dance I would definitely pick lyrical. I am excited to perform the nutcracker again. I had so much fun last year.

My name is Charis, I have many hobbies which often are inspired from dance. I am 17 and love the outdoors. I live on a hobby farm which allows me to enjoy the sunshine, rain, and even snow. I am the youngest of 6 kids and hope to follow my siblings' example to travel the world. “You can't do anything about the length of your life. But you can do something about its width and depth."

Hi! I’m Lydia Williams, I’m 15 years old and this is my 9th year dancing. I have practised ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, pointe, acrobatics & my absolute favourite class is aerial. I love ‘hanging around’ on the hoop, cube, trapeze and silks. I am in grade 10 and my favourite teacher is my mom, as I am homeschooled! When I’m not at dance I enjoy driving, hot tubing, getting my nails done and having an ice cold glass of Coke!
